What is Retinal Detachment?
Retinal detachment is a condition that occurs when the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye is pulled away from its normal position. This separation leads to a loss of vision, which can be permanent if not treated promptly.
Warning Signs
- Flashes of light (photopsia): Seeing bright sparks or streaks in one or both eyes.
- Sudden increase in floaters: Many new small specks or “cobwebs” drifting through your vision.
- A curtain-like shadow: A dark area appearing over your visual field.
- Gradual shading: A loss of peripheral (side) vision that seems to be closing in.
